Dec 4: Frans Nielson returns to New York

Frans Nielsen is back in New York but as a Red Wing. There was a good “will-he-wont-he” build up leading up to free agency. But ultimately he left. But unlike former teammate Matt Martin’s return, this won’t be such a warm reception.

If you’ll remember we ran a piece based on some comments that Frans made within hours of officially signing with the Red Wings on the first day of free agency. And the comments weren’t the most flattering for the Isles.

In it, he stated that he wanted to win. And if he was going to leave the New York Islanders it was going to be a team that has a chance at winning a Stanley Cup. So, naturally, he went to Detroit. That ‘naturally’ was heavily dipped in sarcasm.

Moving to Detroit gives Frans a great probability of making the playoffs, they’ve made it to the post-season for the past 25 years. But Detroit is by no means a cup contender, at least based on last year’s performance. I’d argue, and you’d likely agree that the Islanders are in a better position to make a run than the Red Wings are.

With Frans back in the building, we get to show him what he’s missing out on. This is going to be a show-me game for the former Islander. The Isles are going to put on a show so sit back and enjoy it.
