On Sunday there were rumors circulating, that the Islanders and Lightning could be potential trade partners. Nikita Kucherov‘s name was the main focus of the rumors. As much as Islander fans would love this move, it may be unrealistic.

Andy Graziano writes that he has been notified by a league source that a trade is unlikely at the moment. The rumored deal had Ryan Strome as part of the package that the Islanders were giving up.

Graziano sites salary cap issues and raises the point that why would the Lightning give up a 23 year old coming off of back to back 60+ point seasons.

It would also be difficult for the Islanders to rid themselves of burdening cap hits like Mikhail Grabovski or Nikolai Kulemin. It would be great for Garth Snow to bring in another elite scorer, it just so happens that as things are constructed now a trade between the Lightning and Islanders doesn’t seem likely.
