The New York Islanders are a team who relied on their youth to take the next step forward. It led them to a playoff appearance and a first round series win.

2015-2016 felt like a roller coaster ride for the New York Islanders. There are many ups and downs when a team is built around youth which is exactly what the Islanders were. Garth Snow was criticized last year for sitting on his hands instead of trying to improve areas of the team.

While players such as Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin struggled so did many of their younger players. During an 82 game season a team is bound to go through ups and downs offensively.

It just came to a point that the Islanders had too many players who were too inconsistent. They finished with over 100 points for the second year in a row, but something felt off with this team. Eventually the islanders would win a playoff round which was a huge step for this team, but in order to replace some lost pieces in free agency they are going to need to see improvements.

Here are the top 3 Islanders most likely to show improvement and to take a step forward in their development this upcoming season.
