The New York Islanders are holding a memorial to remember Al Arbour, their legendary coach, on Monday August 29th. The event will take place at Northwell Health Ice Center. Doors will open at 10:30am and the ceremony will begin one hour after that. For more info check it out on the Islanders website.

The service is taking place one year and a day after Arbour passed away. Due to my age, I didn’t get to have the pleasure of seeing Al Arbour coach on a regular basis. Although when the Islanders brought Al back to coach his 1,500 game I did have a glimpse of it, it will always be a fond Islanders memory of mine.

Al coached the Islanders to four Stanley Cup victories in a row from 1980 to 1983. From 1973 through the 1985-86 year Al was behind the bench. Just 2 years later Al found his way back home behind the bench for the Islanders where he coached from 1988 through the 1993-94 season.

Islanders captain John Tavares will be at the ceremony. Make sure to RSVP because seating for this event is limited.
