The New York Islanders had a bit of a face lift this offseason. A lot of familiar faces won’t be returning to the Islanders this year and according to John Tavares the moves haven’t really sunk in yet.

Tavares relied heavily upon Kyle Okposo, Frans Nielsen and Matt Martin it’ll be a tough transition. Not only did Tavares rely on these guys, but they were also home grown and fan favorites which makes it that much harder to see them go.

We could debate all day long if they actually improved their team but one thing is for certain the goal remains the same.

The Islanders must take a step forward in their development. A second round appearance was a good start, but now their eyes must be set of an Eastern Conference Finals appearance. They have a talented team, they just have to live up to expectations.
