New York Islanders Daily: Halak And Team Europe Loses

A look around the web at the most recent New York Islanders news. Make Eyes On Isles your go to website for all things Islanders.
The World Cup Of Hockey got under way yesterday as exhibitions started. The main focus, from the Islanders perspective, will be on Team Europe as their two goalies, Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss take the battle for the crease into the tournament.
Last night Halak got the start and he ended up allowing four goals. If you were watching football, or something else you would probably look at the stat sheet and not be impressed with Halak allowing four goals.
There’s a bit more to the story than that. Halak was let out to dry on a couple of those goals and the penalty shot at the end he couldn’t do all that much with.
Team North America played a very fast game, and the team Europe defenders had trouble keeping up. That mixed with some rust is why they gave up four goals. I’m not going to get on Halak after one exhibition performance.
As much as we love John Buccigross, hearing him mispronounce Halak’s name all night was like nails on a chalkboard. It’s the preseason for everyone I guess.
