The New York Islanders and New York Rangers met one final time before they do it for real on opening night. The Islanders got the better of the Rangers as they won 3-2 in overtime.

Cal Clutterbuck had two goals in the game. The fourth liner is coming off a productive season in which he scored 15 goals. Can Clutter be more of a scoring threat this year? Possibly, the Islanders without Matt Martin will be less physical so he certainly will have more opportunities.

As for the overtime winner Josh Bailey found the back of the net. Bailey looked pretty good last night, he was able to be a play maker. Hopefully it translates to the regular season.

Other notable performances would go to  Anthony Beauvillier and J.F. Berube. Beauvillier isn’t likely to make the team but the kid has a good motor. He reminded Jack Capuano of Casey Cizikas, which is a very nice complement.

Berube might end up getting traded as he would have to clear waivers if sent down. Garth Snow might try to get something for him if he goes with the Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss combination.
