Is Jack Capuano the right coach for the Islanders to become an elite team? That’s a good question. While Cappy holds the team accountable and has been good with young players, there are some reservations to his style of coaching.

Far too often the Islanders have come out with a lethargic first period. That occurred many times last year and has been a little noticeable this year as well. That trend cannot continue this season and that has to fall on the head coach.

The Islanders have far too much talent to struggle as they have on the power-play the last two-three seasons. Yes, Doug Weight is the power-play coach but this is an area where Capuano has to get involved and demand adjustments. I don’t see enough adjustments with the extra man.

Finally, big picture it’s a murky one at best if Capuano is the right man to led this team into become a true contender for the Stanley Cup. One thing is for sure if that is still in doubt after this season, the new ownership group will be shopping for a new coach.
