Islanders Can’t Get Out Of Their Own Way In Loss

The New York Islanders lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning by a score of 4-1. It got out of hand rather quickly for the Isles.

After a playoff series loss last year and a beat down already this year, you would think the Islanders would have been motivated to play the Lightning. You’d be wrong.

The Islanders took six penalties in the game. Six! They gave Jaroslav Halak no chance in this one as he was pulled after surrendering his third goal of the night 2:50 into the second period.

Steven Stamkos scored on the power play in the first and Nikita Kucherov would add another goal against the Islanders in the first as well which is how we got to this point in the game.

Thomas Greiss came in for Halak and Greiss remained rather untested throughout the period. Andrew Ladd would score his second goal of the year. He scored in the previous game against Vancouver and then again in Tampa Bay tonight. Hopefully he begins to heat up offensively.

The Isles would head into the dressing room down 3-1 after two periods. It initially looked like the goalie swap was working as the momentum began to switch. but then only 1:08 into the third Brian Boyle netted one to extend the Lightning lead.

That would be the final score, 4-1.

The story tonight was the Islanders undisciplined play. They took far too many penalties, and took penalties in the offensive zone which is a big no-no.

The team is not well coached, the offense is still bad and the penalty kill is struggling as they have now allowed power play goals in eight straight games.

It’s getting dark early around here, literally (Daylight Savings) and figuratively. It doesn’t get easier for the Islanders, they have Florida on Saturday and then Tampa again on Monday night.
