The emotional toll of going to California and losing two out three games is hopefully a thing of the past as the New York Islanders come home to faceoff against the Calgary Flames.

The New York Islanders lost two out of their three games out on their California Thanksgiving road trip. Not good. Borderline disastrous when you consider that they’re in last place because of it.

But in come the Calgary Flames for a tilt at the Barclays. A team also struggling for form and with a goaltending issue to boot. What better opportunity to get a nice feel good home victory, and hopefully turn the tide on the season, or at least ease the gap that’s starting to form between them and the rest of the league.

More from NY Islanders News

At the time of writing the Islanders find themselves in 30th, two points back of Arizona in 29th, and nine points out of a wild-card spot in the east.

Calgary has issues of their own. They went out and got Brian Elliott in the offseason in the hopes that it would shore up their goaltending woes from last season. Twenty games into the season and Calgary still find themselves in the bottom f the goaltending standings.

They rank 28th in terms of team-wide save percentage with .894 SV%. Marginally better than last season’s league worse .892 SV%. That’s including Chad Johnson’s team-leading .922 SV% and 2.22 GAA.

Calgary need a goaltender that can get them league average goalkeeping and we have three. Maybe a trade is in order down the line? Keep an eye on this roster and make a list of what you like, it may come in handy later.

(Speaking of handy: Johnny Gaudreau won’t be playing on account of his fractured finger).
