Islanders Fall Apart In Third Period Lose To Columbus

The New York Islanders allowed four goals in the third period as they got blown out 6-2 by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ending their point streak.

So, this game didn’t start off so bad for the Islanders. They were actually the first ones to get on the board on a very bizarre play.

Josh Bailey just got one off the heel of his stick and it found it’s way through for a goal. It wasn’t pretty but obviously we’ll take it.

The Isles would hold that lead until Jack Johnson netted one at 13:59 in the first period to tie the game at one. It was on the power play so the Islanders run of penalty killing was over. It was fun while it lasted.

Cam Atkinson netted his tenth goal on the season and Columbus led for the first time in the game 10:16 into the second period. But, the Islanders showed resiliency. They bounced right back when the captain stayed with it and found the twine.

The score would remained tied through the end of the second period. Although John Tavares took a penalty at the end of the second period. Once Columbus took over on the power play at the start of the third period they had the momentum.

Josh Anderson, Brandon Saad, Lukas Sedlak and Seth Jones all lit the lamp in the third period. Columbus scored four unanswered and the Islanders were toast.

Jaroslav Halak got yanked and we saw J.F. Berube for the first time this year. He made just one save.

The Islanders didn’t have much offense going for them. The only line that looked good was the top line of Brock Nelson – John Tavares – Josh Bailey. Other than that the Isles couldn’t get anything going.

Oh yeah, they only had one shot on three power play opportunities tonight. Not ideal.
