The New York Islanders vs New York Rangers rivalry is real. It’s not just the fans who hate each other, the players do too.

If Jason Chimera hasn’t won you over as a member New York Islanders with his recent hot streak he will with his comments on the New York Rangers. Although only an Islander for six months he has some pretty strong feelings about the crosstown rivals.

Chimera said “I’ve only been here six months and I hate them…it’s not just the team it’s the people who cheer for them. You hear your neighbors talking about the Rangers and you want to beat them even more.”

Oh my God, who knew Jason Chimera was one of us? We know exactly how Chimera is feeling. Just look at the comments under that tweet. They’re all from Rangers fans claiming that he’s just sour he’s not on the Rangers.

You can almost hear the h̶a̶v̶e̶n̶’̶t̶ ̶w̶o̶n̶ ̶a̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶y̶o̶f̶f̶ ̶s̶e̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶s̶i̶n̶c̶e̶ ̶1̶9̶9̶3̶  haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1983 comeback echoing through your screen. Even though the keyboard warriors have coincidently blocked out the fact that their team has just one in the last 76 years, but I digress.

Chimera certainly shows his hate for the Rangers on the ice. He has eight career goals in 33 games which is essentially a pace for 20 goals over a full season. That’s not including his overtime game-winner from the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs that came at the expense of the Rangers.

Chimera’s a bonified Ranger killer, and we hope he keeps up that pace as an Islander. Stuff like this helps win yourself over with the fans.

With over 1,000 career games in his back pocket, he’s been around the block a few times. Even though he’s only been in New York a short while he sure knows how to speak to the media.
