The New York Islanders won their first of nine road games by a score of 3-1 over the Detroit Red Wings keeping pace in the playoff race.

One of the New York Islanders biggest flaws this year has been the play on the road. It was important for them to start this devastating road trip off the right way with a win.

When the Isles began to turn their season around one thing, in particular, didn’t change. The road struggles. Tonight, was a solid win for the Isles on the road, which has been beyond rare to see from this team.

The last few times out on the road they got embarrassed, but not tonight. They looked like the clear better team.

The one negative would be having Cal Clutterbuck and Casey Cizikas go down with an injury. Hopefully, it’s not anything significant and they don’t miss time, but Clutter’s inability to stay healthy is a bit concerning.

If they caught go expect Stephen Gionta to see some action. Maybe, just maybe Josh Ho-Sang could get called up if both can’t go. It’s a stretch but worth dreaming about.

Could the Islanders trade for Frans Nielsen? (Eyes on Isles)

Mitch thinks the isles should re-acquire Frans. As much as that would be pretty cool, I don’t see Garth Snow swallowing his pride.

Islanders need to call up Ryan Pulock (Eyes on Isles)

It would be in the Islanders best interest if they called up Pulock from Bridgeport.
