The New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow has a big decision coming up as the trade deadline approaches. To make a move or to stay put.

After another New York Islanders embarrassing road loss, Garth Snow has some time to make a decision before the Isles play next. Will he or won’t he make a move before the deadline.

Arthur Staple mentions how Garth Snow has only moved a first round pick or elite prospect at the deadline once in his tenure as GM. It was in 2007 when he dealt Ryan O’Marra and Robert Nilsson for Ryan Smyth.

Smyth didn’t really pan out with the Islanders and O’Marra and Nilsson luckily didn’t do much after being dealt. Garth would be wise to move someone to try to improve the team for the now.

A Matt Duchene like move shows that the Isles are going for it. If not, then it shows once again he’s waiting for kids to develop. As much as it’s tough to trade away prospects, sometimes you have to take that risk.

Not every prospect will pan out, plus that takes time. One of these years the Islanders need to make that move that puts them over the top. If not now, then when?
