Center: John Tavares

Was there ever a doubt? Calgary’s closest competition for the center position was Sean Monahan. Who is nowhere near the league that John Tavares is in.

Since being drafted in 2009, John Tavares ranks ninth in terms of points scored league wide with 524 points. The players ahead of him are a litany of future Hall of Famers. From Alex Ovechkin to Sidney Crosby.

Now that Tavares plays on the penalty kill he actually does just about everything for the Islanders. Including carrying them on his back on most nights.

With Tavares up top, this team would instantly be one of the best in the league. Both on the  5-on-5 and on the power play. Having Gaudreau for 3-on-3 OT might even help get the best out of Tavares. wouldn’t have to do absolutely everything in the extra frame.

JT wouldn’t have to do absolutely everything in the extra frame and risk being tired out there and making a costly mistake.

It’s a nice fantasy world to love in. What with having a top line of Gaudreau-Tavares-Lee. A defensive tandem of Leddy-Hamilton. And hey, Monahan would be a perfect second line center for this team. With Greiss being Greiss this team has some serious Stanley Cup potential.
