Michael Peca

B-. NYI Career Stats: 222 GP, 142 PTS, 52.8% FOW. New York Islanders. . Michael Peca

Mike Peca came to the Islanders from the Sabres in the way of trade for Tom Connolly and Taylor Pyatt. Before coming to the Isles, Peca was a sub 50% on the draw. Between 1997 and 2000, Peca averaged 47.89%.

Peca wasn’t brought in because he could take a draw. His physical style of play and strong defensive presence fit the mold of hockey at the time.

But as a member of the Islanders Peca’s number flourish. In his three seasons with the Islanders, Peca averaged 52.8%.

In a way the trade worked, the Islanders made the post-season for the first time in seven years in Peca’s first year. Peca also won the Selkie and came tenth in Hart nominations that year.

The Isles traded Peca to Edmonton in return for Mike York who had one good season on the Island before his production fell off the face of the earth
