Shawn Bates

NYI Career Stats: 330 GP, 170 PTS, 53.1% FOW. New York Islanders. . Shawn Bates. B

Shawn Bates wasn’t more than a third line player. Gritty and tough. But under the right circumstances, he could produce. Like that 2001-02 season, his first with the Islanders, where Bates scored 52 points.

It was a slow decline for Bates after that. Producing less and less points year after year, before he was out of the league in 2007-08 after the Isles bought out his contract.

But between those years Bates put up some excellent faceoff numbers. In his five* seasons with the Islanders, he averaged 53.1% in the faceoff circle.

I put an asterisk beside the five because he did technically play in a sixth season for the Islanders, but for only two games.
