Calvin de Haan

Cap Hit: $1.966
End of Season Status: RFA

I like Calvin de Haan. I like what he brings to the team. I like what he does on the ice. And I like him paired with Travis Hamonic in that 3-4 role.

I don’t think he’s anything more that a 3-4 defenseman and a 5-6 on a great team. Something the Islanders aren’t.

I’d sign Calvin de Haan to a three-year $2.5 million deal. Something to keep him with the team for the next few year while some of the prospects down on the farm come knocking on the door.

But with all that being said. I’m ok if the Islanders lose de Haan in the expansion draft. They won’t be able to protect all the defensemen they’ll want to. And de Haan will likely be one left exposed.

That’s fine. The Islanders have other defensemen that can step into that 3-4 role pretty comfortably next season. Ryan Pulock being one of them.
