Arbour Division Matchup #1

(1) Mike Bossy v. (8) Ed Westfall

It’s hard to think that a player with two Stanley Cups to his name, a Bill Masterton trophy and 625 career points (286 with the Isles), can get zero votes in a competition like this one.

But in 24 hours of voting the Eyes on Isles fans, and those just observing (and voting) from a distance on Twitter did exactly that. Not a single vote was given to Ed Westfall. The man the Islanders plucked from the Boston Bruins ninth overall in the 1972 expansion draft.

And then you remember he was up against Mike Bossy. Only the second player to ever record 50 goals in 50 games. And only one of five to have accomplished that feat to this day.

In ten short seasons, Mike Bossy accumulated 1126 points. Four Stanley Cups, three Lady Byng awards, a Calder, and a Conn Smythe Trophy.

What he did in his short time in the league was truly remarkable. Oh. He’s a Hall of Fame player too.

All of that combined makes Ed Westfall chances slim to none to even get enough votes to make a respectable push. Getting none, isn’t bad. It’s to be expected given the competition.
