Torrey Division Matchup #2

(2) Bryan Trottier v. (7) Bob Bourne

Now this result is more like it. With 99% of the vote, Bryan Trottier is the decisive winner in this matchup. And like Denis Potvin before him, that just makes sense.

Trottier could have even ranked first, overall. It was between Bossy, Potvin and Trottier. And Trots (with an ‘S’) just got the short end of the stick.

Like Potvin, Trottier’s list of accomplishments and accolades is extensive. He’s first and foremost a Hall of Famer (one of only four Isles players to get that honor). He’s won the almost standard for this list four cups.

He’s won a Calder, a Clancy, a Ross, a Hart and a Smythe trophy to boot. He has 1425 points to his name, ranking him 16th all-time in the NHL in points.

Bourne and his 582 points didn’t stand a chance. Even though he got some serious Selke love in 1980-81 the only trophy outside of the cups was a Masterton award. Given out to the player that best exemplifies perseverance, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Bourne was a fine player. But he’s not Hall of Fame caliber like the first two round winners.
