The New York Islanders had a magnificent third period after a sloppy start to last night’s game. Their captain had a rare off night.

New York Islanders captain John Tavares did not look like his normal self last night.  The Islanders play usually is a direct result of how Tavares is playing, but that wasn’t the case last night.

The Isles were forced to overcome poor play from JT. He ended up taking more penalties than shots.

John Tavares was sent to the sin-bin three times against the Rangers. During one of his penalties, the Rangers even scored a power play goal. I honestly don’t ever remember Tavares having as bad of a night as he did last night.

Just two shots on goals and three penalties is very un-Tavares like. Nonetheless, he like the Isles had a much better third period as he assisted on a power play goal.

He might owe Thomas Greiss a dinner. Greiss bailed out the Isles big time last night in a game they absolutely needed.
