After almost three months in the AHL, Jaroslav Halak has proven that he is ready to play in the NHL again. With the New York Islanders struggles in net, it was a timely call-up indeed.

The New York Islanders have needed a backup goaltender ever since Halak was sent down. With Berube showing he has no place in the NHL, going 3-2-2 with a 3.42 GAA and a .889 SV%. Goaltending numbers that no team can win in front of. Let alone a team deep in a playoff hunt against three other teams.

The way the schedule looks for the New York Islanders, as they are set to play three games in four nights, a backup goaltender who is proven to win games is a huge necessity in order for the Islanders to make the playoffs.

More from Eyes On Isles

Don’t forget that the Islanders have three back-to-back games remaining this season.

With the playoff race heating up between the Isles, Bruins, Leafs, and Lightning this thing can go down to the very last day. Which is coincidentally one of the three back-to-backs the Isles have left.

So, why not call up Jaroslav Halak? The man who went 17-7-3 in his 27 games in Bridgeport while boasting a 92.5 save percentage and a 2.15 goals against average? Numbers you can rely on.

During his stretch in Bridgeport, Halak has proven to the New York Islanders and their fans that he is no longer in a slump and is ready to play big games for the New York Islanders.

With games against the Penguins on Friday, the Bruins on Saturday, and the Predators on Monday, Thomas Greiss won’t be able to start every game. Jaroslav Halak’s chance to play is definitely well deserved.
