Arbour Division 2nd Round Matchup #1

(1) Mike Bossy v. (2) Clark Gillies

With a comfortable 82% of the vote, Mike Bossy is going to move right passed his former teammate and onto the division finals.

Gillies is no push over. He’s a Hall of Fame player, just like Bossy. He has four cups, just like Bossy. But that’s where the comparisons end. And why Gillies only got that 18%.

He’s done enough for this franchise to be in contention with some of the legends. Heck, he’s a legend himself. But if you have to sparse the top tier of Islanders players Bossy is a level, if not multiple levels above Gillies.

It’s not a knock against Gillies, it’s just the truth.

There’s a reason Bossy is in the NHL’s 100 greatest players and Clark Gillies isn’t. What Bossy did in his ten seasons in the NHL was absolute wizardry.

If only we could have seen him play for another five to eight years.
