(6) Bobby Nystrom v. (5) John Tavares

The current Mr. Islander versus the OG Mr. Islander Bobby Nystrom.

I thought this was going to be a tough round. But fans made it pretty easy with Tavares getting 75% of the vote over Nystrom.

Forget that cups, or the cup winning goals, forget all of that. Fans love the cut of the captain’s jib. And I can’t blame them.

With only eight seasons in the league, Tavares has already passed Nystrom in the points department. And there’s at least another eight seasons to go. With a rightful assumption that he signs a contract extension n July 1st.

To me, the reason for all the votes is the view to the future. If the Isles are going to be successful in their 30 year “Drive for Five” Tavares is going to be the catalyst.

The faith that 30 years of waiting will eventually be paid off thanks to Tavares.

It by no way diminishes the Nystroms achievements and importance tot he franchise. It just shows where fans minds are at. Squarely on that fifth cup.
