Torrey Division 2nd Round Matchup #1

(1) Denis Potvin v. (2) Bryan Trottier

What a mouthwatering matchup. Legendary players in their own right, and key pieces of the Islanders dynasty of the 80’s. Denis Potvin vs. Bryan Trottier is as marquee of a matchup as can be.

Only one can come out of this victorious, and it’s Denis Potvin. With 56% of the fan vote on twitter. The former captain beat out Trottier by a narrow margin.

This certainly won’t please some of the fan base who hold Trottier in high regard. And for good reason. He has all the accolades that you could expect from a legendary player.

He has countless individual and team accomplishments. He’s also one of a few players to win multiple cups with other teams. Indicating that what he did with the Islanders wasn’t due to his surroundings.

Although to be fair, Trottier didn’t just join any team. It was the Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr led Pittsburgh Penguins. Two legends themselves. One who luckily shares a number with Josh Ho-Sang….and ranks 8th in all-time scoring in the NHL. Oh and that Jagr guy who’s second in NHL scoring.

Whatever the reason was for picking Potvin over Trottier it’s clear that either would have been a worthy recipient and lock to make it to the finals against the Arbour Division champ.
