Here it is the last four names in the Islanders bracket challenge. It’s the final four. Four names enter, only two remain. In the Arbour Division, it was Bossy vs. Tavares.

It couldn’t have been a tougher vote for Islanders fans, Mike Bossy was up against John Tavares. Voting against one of the best pure goal scorers in the NHL or voting against the present and future of the franchise.

But with 73% of the vote, Mike Bossy was the clear winner. Sorry, John. We still love you.

In voting for your favorite player going with an established quantity is a no brainer. It’s not to say that John Tavares won’t be a fantastic player for the rest of his career, but we have the ability to look at the records, the cups, and the accolades for Bossy.

For Tavares, it’s the promise of what could be. And who knows even. It could be a number of cups and scoring race titles and MVP votes. But it could also be all over as soon as July 1st, 2017.

On his way to the final Bossy took out the likes of Ed Westfall 100-0 and Clark Gillies a fellow Hall of Fame player by a margin of 82-18.

To think Tavares would do well enough make it out of the Arbour division to the finals wouldn’t make much sense.

Maybe when we do this contest again after a number of seasons Tavares might stand a better chance. Maybe that 27% gets up to the 30%-40% range.

Mike Bossy will move to the Finals for a date against the Torrey Division finalist. It’s either Denis Potvin and Billy Smith.
