I’m running out of words that explain how the New York Islanders are making me feel. I’ve gone with dejected. That’s how last night’s loss made me feel.

How the New York Islanders let the Philadelphia Flyers score four goals in the opening ten minutes of last night’s game is unconscionable. It just wasn’t right or reasonable.

And there was still another 50 minutes to play! 50! How that doesn’t make you as an Isles fan feel sad and depressed (at least metaphorically) is beyond me. So I’m sure you’re just like me.

Just a week ago the hopes of getting into the playoffs was real. But now it’s looking like the longest April Fools con ever. Building up a false sense of security, only to have it ripped away like a useless band-aid on a paper cut.

New York Islanders

So now what? There are still games to play. Like tonight against the Devils. A team that is well and truly out of the playoff race. Will they show up and play spoiler to the Islanders last ditch attempt to make the playoffs?

We’ve already played them twice. The first game the Isles lost 3-2 but then took the back-to-back 6-4 at the Barc.

So maybe tonight is a repeat? It’s a back-to-back (at least for the islanders anyways) and it’s at the Barclays Center. That should be good enough to put the Islanders in a familiar place?

Let’s hope so. Because another loss, while still not mathematically eliminating the Isles for the post-season, would certainly put a significant damper on any attempts to do so.

Goals Tonight

  1. Play a full 60 minutes: Sounds ridiculous, but after last night it needs to be repeated
  2. Score first: Just get some momentum. Do yourselves a favor.
  3. Stay disciplined: Don’t try to rearrange Claude Giroux’s eye Josh, please.
