Doug Weight

Pedigree: 24-12-4 record with Isles

It’s Doug Weight’s job to lose at this point, regardless of who’s made available in the coaching free market. Unless Toronto has a brain fart and lets Babs go for no good reason.

After Jack Capuano was fired – probably two months too late – Doug Weight turned this team around. Dragging them from the bottom of the Eastern Conference to battling for a wild-card spot until game number 81.

The Isles were pronounced dead in December, but by April they were still in it. Thanks to Doug Weight.

There were a few bumps on the way. Namely a 7-1 loss to the Maple Leafs and a 7-0 loss just a week later to the Columbus Blue Jackets. And a power play that just didn’t seem to know what it was doing on the ice.

But with a 0.600 winning percentage on the season for Weight, those blunders were forgettable, because the Isles were still winning.

Who knows if Weight wants the job. He’s also the assistant GM after all. But assuming he does, he’s the guy the Isles should appoint going into 2017-18.
