Darryl Sutter

Pedigree: 18 Years NHL Experience, 2 Stanley Cups (11-12, 13-14)

After six years with the Los Angeles Kings, Darryl Sutter was let go as head coach after missing the playoffs for the second time in three years.

Why hire a coach who was just fired for losing? First off, winning coaches are, for good reason, not made available. That’s why Joel Quenneville isn’t on this list.

How does two Stanley Cups within the last six years sound? For a team looking to build a winning identity int he modern era, hiring a coach who’s done exactly that would be a fantastic statement to make.

His .565 points percentage over his 18 year NHL coaching career places him squarely within Ken Hitchcock and Lindy Ruff territory in terms of ability to make the playoffs, missing out on spring hockey just four times in his career.

Also, it’s been a while since the Sutter name has graced this franchise.
