New York Islanders Daily: Looking Ahead To 2017-2018

The New York Islanders will not be playing in the postseason for only the second time in the last five seasons, and instead will look ahead to next year.
Missing the playoffs stinks, and obviously, the New York Islanders would rather be playing right now but that doesn’t mean that there will be a lack of storylines. Allan Kreda took a look at the big offseason ahead of the Isles.
The biggest thing right now that he brings up is the John Tavares contract situation. J.T. is heading into the last year of his current six-year $33 million contract.
He will likely get a well-deserved raise, and if we learned anything from Steven Stamkos it will be in the eight-year $9-10 million AAV range. Though Tavares doesn’t think they need to rush into anything.
“I don’t think my situation needs to be rushed or taken care of tomorrow,” he said.
He also mentions the arena situation. Oh yeah on top of likely having to find a new GM and extending Tavares the Isles will likely have to iron out their stadium situation and try to find a more stable solution.
Buckle up, it’s going to be an entertaining offseason.
