41. Gerald Hart (86 points)

Hart spent a total of 15 seasons in the NHL with four different teams. But none were as fruitful as those seven with the Islanders.

Selected from the Red Wings in the 1972 expansion draft, Hart was one of the original Islanders. With 476 games with the Isles, Hart scored 128 points. In his other eight seasons, he scored 42 points. None were better than his back to back 18 goal seasons between 1975 and 1977.

42. Mariusz Czerkawski (74 points)

Remember when the NHL All-Star game was Team Nort America and Team Europe? In the year 2000 edition, the Islanders had a single representative and that was defenceman Mariusz Czerkawski.

That season the Polish-born winger scored 70 points with an even 35 in goals and assists. The Isles traded him to Montreal a few seasons later where he wasn’t able to reproduce what he did with the Isles.

In fact, he came back to the Isles and put up 49 points before leaving for Toronto where he would score five points. It’s almost like he preferred to play in Long Island

43. David Volek (63 points)

If you don’t remember David Volek, ask any Penguins fans and they will. Volek scored the decisive goal to eliminate the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins in 1993.

His career was short but very productive before his back gave out and forced him from the game. In six seasons with the Isles, Volek scored 249 regular season points and another ten in the playoffs. With that one all important one in 1993.

44. Benoit Hogue (62 points)

Hogue came to the Isles as a piece in the trade for Pierre Turgeon. He hadn’t scored more than 28 points in the NHL. In his first full season with the Islanders, he scored 75 points. He actually did it in back to back seasons. With a 69 point season in his third and final year with the Isles.

Too bad the Isles got fleeced in a trade with the leafs, where they sent Hogue and two picks for goaltender Eric Fichaud. Who put up a 0.899 SV% with a 3.14 GAA.

45. Josh Bailey (62 points)

It’s taken nine seasons, for Josh Bailey to show us exactly why the Islanders selected him ninth overall in 2008 with a career-high 56 points.

Call him elite or not, but Josh Bailey is an important part of the current New York Islanders setup. When the Isles were struggling at the beginning of the season Josh Bailey was the sole highlight for the Isles.

It’s taken a while, but the real Josh Bailey might finally be here.
