46. Jason Blake (50 points)

Much like Mariusz Czerkawski before him, Jason Blake saved his best for the Islanders. Acquired for a conditional fifth round pick. It started off rocky with 18 points in his first season on the Island. But it quickly escalated.

By his second season, Blake scored 55 points. In total Blake scored 258 points across six seasons. Making that trade an absolute genius move. A rarity for the Milbury regime.

47. Brendan Witt (44 points)

The defenceman was acquired as a free agent after a fractious break up between himself and the Washington Capitals (with a brief stop in Nashville).

His points totals are nothing to write home about, Witt perfectly encapsulated the stay-at-home defenceman mold.

48. Garry Howatt (36 points)

Taken 144th overall in the 1972 NHL draft nothing much was expected of him. But in nine years with the New York Islanders, Howatt put up 213 points.

Heck, he even won two Stanley Cups adding another six points in his two final seasons with the Islanders.

49. Travis Green (26 points)

Drafted 23rd overall in 1989, Green didn’t look like he’d pan out. Scoring just 12 points in his third season with the Isles. But then, in 1995-96 green exploded for 70 points in 69 games.

He followed that up with another 64 point campaign before being traded to the Ducks for J.J. Daigneault. Neither was any good for the respective new teams. But at least the Isles did the right thing and traded him when his value was high. Too bad it was Milbury at the helm.

50. Brad Dalgarno (23 points)

Dalgarno spent his entire nine-year NHL career with the New York Islanders. Scoring 120 points in 321 games played.

Dalgarno wasn’t much of an offensive force, but neither was fighting. He’s probably best remembered for missing the entire 1989-90 season for losing a fight so badly. He broke his orbital bone, cheek and jaw in a fight with Detroit Red Wing’s Joe Kocur.
