New York Islanders Top 50 Players All-Time

1. Mike Bossy (395 points)
There wasn’t much debate. During March Madness in 2017, we ran our own bracket. We let fans rank the top New York Islanders player in team history and Bossy was at the top. He swept away the competition. A competition that included number two overall in this list Denis Potvin.
That’s what four Stanley Cups, a Calder trophy, a Conn Smythe, and three Lady Byng awards will do. Not to mention nine consecutive 50+ goal seasons and one of only five members to be part of the exalted 50-goals-in-50-games club.
The man was a legend not only to the New York Islanders and their fans, but to the game of hockey itself.
Who knows what could have been if a bad back didn’t steal Bossy away from us too early. In ten NHL seasons, Bossy notched 1126 points, ranking him 56th all-time in NHL scoring. Three or four seasons at his regular pace would have easily placed him 14th overall in points and likely third overall in goals.
There wasn’t a better pure goal scorer to play the game. Sure. Some players put up better numbers than Bossy did. But they went on to have long NHL careers. There wasn’t anyone better nor will there be anyone better than Mike Bossy when it comes to goal scoring.
