16. Pierre Turgeon (280 points)

Turgeon came in after the Isles traded future Hall of Fame player Pat LaFontaine to the Sabres. The then 22-year-old had already accumulated 323 points in 399 games for the Sabres. The Isles were giving a lot in LaFontaine, but they were getting a lot back.

He was only around for three and a half seasons, but in the time he put up 340 points, won a Lady Byng trophy for a 132 point campaign in 1992-93 and made it all the way to the Conference finals that season.

17. Stefan Persson (264 points)

Stefan Persson was with the Islanders for a total of nine years, his entire NHL career. The defenseman was good on both sides of the ice. Responsible defensively but still put up points. A total of 369 in his Isles career.

If Wikipedia is to be believed Persson was so heartbroken to have been traded by the Isles that he just flat out refused to report and retired from the NHL.

Loving the Isles that much earned Persson a few extra points.

18. Kyle Okposo (247 points)

Kyle Okposo was drafted and developed as an Islander, he was one of our own. Okposo is no longer part of the Islanders. It’s something most of us are still having a hard time getting used to.

He just seemed like one of those players that would be around until the twilight of their career. And then he’d be moved when the Isles hadn’t won a cup to fulfill every NHL’s Ray Bourque destiny.

But after nine years and 369 points, Kyle Okposo wasn’t resigned and was scooped up by the Buffalo Sabres in free agency. Andrew Ladd was his natural replacement and he’s yet to live up to both his predecessor, Okposo or our expectations.

19. Kenny Jonsson (245 points)

Johnsson came to the Isles after they traded Wendel Clark back to the Maple Leafs. Johnsson had only played two seasons for the Leafs but his quality was clear.

Underrated his entire career, Johnsson was a solid contributor for the Isles, think of him as Stefan Persson of the 90’s. Both Swedes and both great two-way defensemen.

In nine seasons with the Islanders Jonsson put up 232 points, and even got some decent Norris love in 1997-98, coming in 12th.

20. Ziggy Palffy (242 points)

It took a while for Ziggy Palffy to make a mark in the NHL. After a few years in the Czech Republic after being drafted by the Isles and then a few more years in the minors, Palffy hit the ground running by 23.

In his first full season with the Isles, he scored 87 points. He was only here for six years but the Czech forward, and a lifeline for and Isles fan playing an NHL version of The Name Game put up an impressive 331 points in 331 games.

What the Isles got back in the trade to the Kings wasn’t enough to fill the void in fans hearts and the Isles on the ice.
