Lady Byng Trophy

Finalists: John Tavares, Josh Bailey, Anthony Beauvillier

Awarded to: the most sportsman and gentlemanly player, combined with a high level of play.

If a high level of play is a factor then immediately the thought goes to John Tavares. No one on the team exemplifies that more than the captain.

Again he leads the team in production with 66 points. He’s a class act in every aspect. It’s a no-brainer to include him int he discussion.

But then you think about Josh Bailey. Who had a career year with 56 points and was arguably the most consistent player on the team from day one of the 2016-17 season. Then you also consider the fact that he picked up only 12 penalty minutes across 82 games.

Then you also consider the fact that he picked up only 12 penalty minutes across 82 games. Which is only bested by three other players on the team, but none of them have played more than 66 games.

Those 66 games belong to Anthony Beauvillier. The 19-year-old spent the season on and off the game day roster but still managed to produce 24 points in his first NHL season.

In those 66 games played, he went to the sin bin for a measly ten minutes.
