The New York Islanders will be picking 15th overall in the NHL Draft this year.  That’s where they were expected to pick in this year’s draft anyways.

0.9 percent was the New York Islanders chances at the number one overall pick. The odds were certainly against them so when it was announced that they had the 15th pick I can’t say that I was too surprised.

The surprises came when the Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars, and New Jersey Devils ended up in the top three. The Flyers who had just the 13th best odds got the second pick, they jumped up the most out of any team moving up 11 spots.

As for the Devils who got the number one overall pick do they go Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier? That becomes the question for them.

I can’t begin to go in depth on who I think the Isles will be taking at 15. It’s far too early for that and to be completely honest I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on these guys. Although if you’re into that kind of stuff you can check out a way too early mock draft here.

This guy has the Islanders taking Nicholas Suzuki a center from the OHL, take that for what it’s worth.

Just four years ago the Isles found themselves in this very same position when they drafted Ryan Pulock 15th overall in the 2013 draft. He saw a little action last year and virtually none (except for one game) this year.

That’s the only issue with drafting in the middle of the first round. No matter who the Isles take don’t expect to see them at the NHL level until 2021.
