Greiss Stuns Tyler Seguin

Jack Capuano had just been fired, and his replacement Doug Weight was behind the bench for this first NHL game. And the Isles were stinking it up in their own end.

Dallas was knocking the puck around when their own number 91 found a free spot by the left circle. Jamie Benn spotted his wide open center and tossed the puck rink wide from the right faceoff circle to Seguin.

The pass was strong, crisp, and hit Sequin perfect for the one-timer. It was a sure goal. Until Greiss, who tracked the puck as it left Benn’s stick reacted to get his right pad down to cover the ice.

Seguin could only look to the rafters for an answer as to how he missed the shot. The answer was in the crease starring at the start of the next run of play.

Greiss would stop all 23 Dallas shots that night, including that Seguin chance, for a shutout and Doug Weights first of 24 wins on the season.
