Ryan Strome Fight Night
It had been a full year since we saw the best of Ryan Strome. You know, that 50 point season from 2014-15? He wasn’t living up to expectations and he knew it. He cut a very frustrated figure on the bench. Oh and he had to deal with Jack Capuano constantly pushing him.
(Not for long.)
On January 13th, as John Tavares sought to get a couple shots at a fumbling puck in Luongo’s armor. Jussi Jokinen then took the opportunity to throw a few cross-checks to Tavares’ back. Which triggered Strome.
Maybe it was all that frustration finally boiling over and manifesting itself through his fists in Jokinen’s face. Maybe it was the sight of the team’s captain and star player being hacked at like a stubborn tree that just won’t fall down.
A sight that he certainly saw a number of times, because we’ve all seen it, and he decided to end it. A single fight won’t have that effect. But the message was still heard.
Ryan Strome won over a number of Islanders fans that night.
