New York Islanders Daily: Mikhail Grabovski On Exempt List

The New York Islanders won’t have to worry about losing Mikhail Grabovski in the expansion draft. Grabo is on the NHLPA’s Expansion Draft Exempt List.

Oh thank God! I for one was extremely concerned that the New York Islanders would lose Mikhail Grabovski in the expansion draft. If you couldn’t sense the sarcasm here’s your warning to not take the last sentence too seriously.

It honestly doesn’t even seem necessary to include him on the exempt list. Mikhail Grabovski is probably the last person I would expect George McPhee to take. Grabovski went the entire 2016-2017 without playing. Plus he has a monster cap hit

If we’re being completely honest I forgot he was a person before I saw this. Grabo is so far out of the Isles plans right now. He’s just collecting his $5 million cap hit and doing whatever a concussed Grabo does.

Grabo hasn’t played a full season since the 2012-2013 shortened season when he played in all 48 games. Since then he hasn’t eclipsed the 60 game mark on the season.

Grabovski is heading into the last year of his 4-year $20 million contract. So far $15 million has gotten the Islanders a total of 18 goals and 44 points over a three-year span. The sad part is that should be the production you get from a $5 million cap hit player over a full 82 game season, not a three-year span.
