New York Islanders Daily: Ilya Sorokin To Join Team Russia

New York Islanders goalie prospect Ilya Sorokin will be heading to the IIHF World Championship to join team Russia. The tournament starts tomorrow.
Wha a week it’s been for New York Islanders goalie prospects. First you had Linus Soderstom leading his Sweedish team to a championship and now Sorokin, the Isles 21-year old prospect will join his country to participate in the 2017 IIHF World Championship.
Sorokin was drafted by the Isles in the 2014 NHL Draft with a third round selection. I’ve tracked him ever since and he’s put up some impressive numbers with his Russian team.
This past year he put up a 25-7-6 record while posting a 1.61 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.

Team Russia’s first game is at 10:15 am on Friday against Sweden. Hopefully, Sorokin gets some action in this tourney that’d be pretty cool.
It’s still going to be some time before we see Sorokin in an Islanders uni. They have to wait until his Russian contract expires and there always seems to be some issues with the KHL to NHL transition.
His potential is very promising though so he is someone you want to keep your eye on over the next year or two.
