New York Islanders Draftees: Current v Playing Elsewhere

Defense 2: Calvin de Haan/Jared Spurgeon
Calvin de Haan is slowly becoming a reliable 3-4 defenseman for the Islanders. He spent most of the season paired with Dennis Seidenberg on the Isles third defensive pairing. But after the two started clicking they moved up the order.
With the partnership de Haan was able to hit a career high in points with 25. And maybe show a glimpse of what the Isles drafted 12th overall in 2009.
He’ll never be a top pair guy unless by some miracle he finds a new way to play, or trips on a puck, breaks his arms and after it heals he can shoot the puck at unheard of speeds with Ray Bourque-like accuracy. Which is the working script for my new feature film; Rookie of the Year 2: Rookie on Ice.
Jared Spurgeon actually never played for the New York Islanders. They drafted him in the sixth round of the 2008 Draft, but the two sides couldn’t agree to a contract.
He instead played out his time in the WHL before joining the Minnesota Wild. And in seven seasons with the Wild, he’s collected 168 points in 448 games.
