New York Islanders Daily: John Tavares Likely To Be Offered 8-Year Deal

The New York Islanders are going to have to extend John Tavares this summer. Rumor has it that he will be offered an eight-year contract extension.
Not too surprising news out of Sportsnet camp yesterday. If John Tavares elects to stay with the New York Islanders it is reported that he will receive an eight-year contract offer worth $10 million a year.
Sometime in the next month Garth Snow is expected to receive an answer as to Tavares’ long-term commitment with the Islanders. It’s going to be a long couple of months.
When Steven Stamkos received an eight-year $68 million contract last summer it was a pretty safe bet that Tavares would yield a similar deal.

At this point, you give Tavares whatever he asks for. The Islanders understood when they drafted him number one overall that he would be the guy you build around. The Isles have had eight years of Tavares on a team friendly contract (wow can’t believe it’s been that long already).
This day would eventually come when they’d have to pay him his true value. You make this deal if you’re the Islanders every day of the week and twice on Sunday. The question is whether or not J.T. agrees to stay.
All signs point to him wanting to stay, but until that dotted line is signed you never truly know for sure.
