The New York Islanders will not be participating in the Winter Classic at Citi Field next year, instead, the New York Rangers will play the Buffalo Sabres.

This isn’t a surprise at all to those who follow the new York Islanders. It was rumored that the Winter Classic would be between the Sabres and Rangers back in March. At the time I wrote how the Isles got snubbed and why the Rangers and Sabres matchup doesn’t make sense.

I still don’t think it makes much sense but I can’t recreate that initial frustration with it especially since I was expecting this matchup to be “officially” announced anyway.

Let’s be real here, the Isles have so many more pressing issues to take care of. For instance that entire arena situation.  The Barclays Center has taken the first steps to renegotiation.

It’s hard for me to muster up any sort of anger on not being included in the Winter Classic when the team is unsure of where they will be playing their hockey in the near future. As tired as we may be talking about this situation countless times that’s the bigger more important thing to care about, not a novelty game.

Also extending John Tavares is pretty important too. So I get I’m supposed to feel upset that the Islanders are again snubbed nationally but like I just said there’s bigger fish to fry at the moment.
