New York Islanders Daily: Ilya Sorokin Dominates For Team Russia

New York Islanders prospect Ilya Sorokin dominated for Team Russia in their teams 5-0 win over team Latvia at the IIHF World Championship.
What an offseason it’s been for the New York Islanders prospects. First we heard of Linus Soderstrom’s contract with the team, then Mathew Barzal wins a championship and MVP in the WHL and now Ilya Sorokin has a shutout at the IIHF Worlds.
Sorokin stopped all 24 shots as Team Russia sailed to an easy 5-0 win over Latvia. If you missed it you can check out the highlights here:
I’m giddy thinking of a potential Sorokin/Soderstrom tandem. Although we may have to pump the breaks on that as both will be spending the next season, not in the States.
It actually might be rather difficult to woo these guys over to the Untied States, but a man can dream. The Islanders certainly have the depth in net with these two prospects it just becomes a waiting game.

Hopefully one makes the trip from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and can become the goalie of the future, but for now Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss are pretty solid placeholders.
