New York Islanders defenseman Calvin de Haan faced some backlash on twitter for saying he had fun playing hockey for his home country.

Personally, I love twitter. I think it’s one of if not the best website’s ever created just based on how quickly you can get news for no charge. Although the downside of this website is a strong one and Calvin de Haan of the New York Islanders felt that this week.

After representing team Canada in the IIHF World Championship tournament he sent out this tweet:

He then had to follow it up with this one:

The fact that it was necessary for de Haan to send out the second tweet shows that he was catching heat for saying that he had fun playing hockey for team Canada. That’s ridiculous. Obviously, he loves playing for the Islanders too.

Playing for your country is the highest honor, in any fashion. He’s representing his country for goodness sake, you would’ve thought that he came out and said that he hated Sparky the Dragon with the reaction he got.

Folks, if you took this as him saying he doesn’t like being an Islander then you are reading way too much into it. It’s sad that we live in a world where this has to be explained yet here we are. How many days until puck drop?
