New York Islanders Best Late Draft Picks in Franchise History

The New York Islanders might not have the success of the early nineties Detroit Red Wings when it comes to selecting prime prospects late in the NHL entry draft, but they still have their fair share of successes.
The NHL Entry Draft is the New York Islanders chance to stock their prospect cupboard with young and talented players. Picking near the top of the order is the best chance at success, but there’s no better feeling than when a late draft pick pans out.
Picking in the first round generally, means a team is selecting an NHL caliber player. There’s still no guarantee. We still remember Kevin Cheveldaoff. Drafted 16th overall in 1988, but never managed to play a single NHL game.
In this list well forget any player that was selected int he first three rounds, focusing on players that were selected from the fourth round and onwards.
If the first round is still a gamble then clearly the later the pick the less of a chance that not only they make the NHL let alone make an impact in the league.
Imagine getting an important cog in a dynasty team in the fourteenth round of the NHL Entry Draft. It sounds impossible, but the Isles did just that in 1974.
