New York Islanders Fan and 9/11 Hero Ray Pfeifer Passes Away

Ray Pfeifer, a 9/11 hero and lifelong New York Islanders fan lost his battle with 9/11 related cancer. He will certainly be missed.
Ray Pfeifer was honored by the New York Islanders last year. On April 2, 2016 Ray Pfiefer dropped the ceremonial puck between John Tavares and Sidney Crosby. He wasn’t much for self promotion but as a lifelong fan, he couldn’t resist the opportunity.
Pfeifer, who was an FDNY Firefighter during the attacks of 9/11 was a true hero in every since of the word. Pfeifer slept in his fire truck for a week after the attacks and then spent the next eight months going through the rubble.
Here’s what Pfeifer had to say on the day he was honored by the Islanders:
“There’s nobody who’s going to be more happy than me”
"“To be in that venue, just to be in front of a hometown crowd and be with my team . . . it’s a dream come true. Not everybody gets to do it. I’m a longtime fan, and it’s an honor just to go out there and hang out with these guys.”"
For someone who went through losing multiple friends on that day and someone who’s life was affected forever by the 9/11 related cancer he always remained positive. He tried his hardest to help out others who were still suffering from that day now 16 years ago.
