The Demise of The Fisherman: 1998-2007

Although the design is pretty bland and the navy blue color strayed away from the royal blue that was worn through the golden years of the New York Islanders, this jersey gets bonus points for being the jerseys that completely eliminated the use of those hideous fisherman jerseys.

Also, one of the most memorable moments in franchise history happened in these sweaters. The Shawn Bates penalty shot goal in the 2003 playoffs, which also happened to be the first NHL game I had ever attended at the young age of three.

Although they didn’t stick around for long, and the bulk of the seasons that the New York Islanders wore these were completely awful. Like those three back-to-back sub 60 point seasons between 1998 and 2000.

If anything let us all be thankful that the Isles decided to trade in those ugly fish stick jerseys for these. Imagine if those were still in use and that South Park joke hit the airwaves. Oh boy.
