New Jersey Devils

Lucky, lucky Devils. Winning the NHL lottery solves one of their problems. They don’t have a bonafide number one center. Or at least they didn’t have one.

They have great goaltending in Cory Schneider. They even have one of the best left wings in the game today. But a number one center they did not have. Now they can decide if it’s going to be Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier.

After that, the Devils need defense. After the departure of Adam Larsson, the Devils are incredibly slim on the blue line. Who is the Devils best defenseman? Andy Greene? Ouch. The Isles have defensemen they could spare. But the return has to be Palmieri.

With Palmieri the Isles get a 50+ point player over the last two seasons to shore up their second forward line.

In return, the Isles give up Travis Hamonic. A player the Isles are clearly fond of, but becomes surplus to requirements when guys like Ryan Pulock are pushing for roster spots – or Vegas protection.
