Anaheim Ducks

With the upcoming expansion draft the Anaheim Ducks are likely going to lose forward Jakob Silfverberg to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Thanks to no move clauses to their big three of Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Ryan Kessler, as well as defenseman Kevin Bieksa, the Ducks are stuck when it comes to protecting their assets up front. Leaving Silfverberg up for grabs, for free.

With 49 points this season and back-to-back 39 point seasons the last two years, losing him for free would be a big blow for the Ducks. So why not trade him for players and picks you don’t need to protect?

Josh Ho-Sang has a high ceiling in the NHL, and is exempt from the expansion draft. It would be terrible to see him go, but the Isles get a known quantity in Silfverberg on a nice $3.75 million contract for the next two seasons.

Silfverberg would change how the Isles approach the expansion draft. They might just have to forget about protecting one of either Brock Nelson, Casey Cizikas or Ryan Strome. But is that really such a bad thing? No.
